Our parents

Roads connect places. ‍ ‍But, they also connect people and time and memories.  Route 11 is one of those roads.  Growing up in south Mississippi, I recall travelling on US 11 with my parents and brother from Hattiesburg MS to Knoxville TN to visit my grandparents every summer in their home in nearby Clinton.  The Red Hot Truck Stop in Meridian MS, the blazing steel works in Birmingham AL, the “See Rock City” ads on barns, and of course the multiple iconic Stuckey’s along the way are forever etched in my memory.

Route 11 continues beyond Knoxville, of course, and many travelers have similar memories of the road as it runs north to the Canadian border at Rouses Point NY.  This site is meant to  be a type of travelogue of the entire Route 11.  It contains information about the origins of the road as well as sights, attractions, and history associated with it.  My hope is that you can use the site to better understand and enjoy travel on this wonderful piece of Americana.
